The Tokyo metropolitan government announced Wednesday that 1,052 new cases of novel coronavirus infection were confirmed in Tokyo on the day.
The number fell by 782 from a week earlier, marking the 24th consecutive day that the daily number was lower than on the same day of the previous week.
The number of seriously ill COVID-19 patients fell by 10 from the previous day to 198. It was the first time for that number to fall below 200 in about one month since Aug. 11, when the number was 197.
According to the metropolitan government, 20 men and women in their 30s to 90s were confirmed to have died of the disease.
The average daily number of newly detected infections in the past week was 1,132, down 45% from the preceding seven-day period at 2,041.
