Tokyo logged 1,010 new cases of the novel coronavirus Thursday, up by 419 from a week earlier during the Golden Week holiday period, when the daily tally was 591, the metropolitan government said.
It was the first time for the figure to surpass 1,000 since May 9, when the tally was 1,032.
The seven-day moving average was 933.9 on Thursday, up 26.8 percent from a week earlier, at 736.6. The figure exceeded 900 for the first time since Jan. 30, when it stood at 901.9.
The number of seriously ill patients fell by two to 84 from Wednesday.
