Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike has expressed a negative view regarding another postponement of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
"Basically, I think it would be difficult" to postpone the Games again, Koike said at a regular press conference Friday.
She said that another postponement by one year would have a significant impact on athletes in terms of maintaining their physical condition and motivation. "If the Games are postponed for another year, they will become something completely different," she said.
Koike reiterated that a decision would be made in June on spectators at the Olympics. "We will make the events safe and secure. That's the basic goal of the Games," she said.
