Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike gets coffee, demonstrates cashless payment

TOKYO -- Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike visited the Togoshi-Ginza Shopping Street in Shinagawa Ward on Thursday and experienced shopping using a cashless settlement.

Koike and Shinagawa Ward Mayor Takeshi Hamano paid for their coffees at a cafe using a smartphone payment service, scanning a QR code while sitting on a bench in front of the cafe.

In some countries, cashless payments are a mainstream payment method. With the increasing number of foreign visitors to Tokyo in mind, Koike said, "It is necessary to devise a way not to miss chances for them to go shopping."
