The announcement of the outcome of the Tokyo Olympic Games ticket redraw will be postponed from Tuesday to Saturday, the Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games has said.
The announcement will be made after the government's decision on what to do with the emergency-level priority measures against the novel coronavirus, which are being applied in Tokyo and nine other prefectures until Sunday.
On June 21, the organizing committee decided to cap the maximum number of spectators per Olympic event at 10,000 or 50% of the venue's capacity, whichever is lower. Since tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies and 97 sessions for seven disciplines, including, athletics, baseball and softball, were sold beyond that limit, the committee also decided to redraw tickets.
The committee postponed the announcement to avoid confusion among ticket holders in case the announcement is followed by a spectator policy change to further reduce spectators or to hold the events without spectators.
The organizing committee will hold a five-party meeting within this week to further discuss the issue in accordance with the government policy, which will be joined by the International Olympic Committee and other relevant authorities.
Ticket holders wishing to make a refund claim were supposed to do so between Tuesday and the morning of July 15, but the period has been changed to between Saturday and the morning of July 20.
