Tokyo Disney Resort operator Oriental Land Co. is considering various approaches to admission fees at its theme parks, including a fluctuation in ticket prices depending on the predicted number of visitors, not only raising prices uniformly. Oriental Land President Kyoichiro Uenishi discussed the question during an interview with The Yomiuri Shimbun.
The company has kept the regular Disney Resrot ticket price at 7,400 yen since raising it in April 2016. "We must be cautious about raising the fee, because consumers' income has not increased much, although we can see a slight upturn in consumer confidence. It's difficult [to determine]," Uenishi said. He also made mention of a consumption tax hike planned for October 2019 and will consider its effect.
The company plans to invest generously in the theme parks so that visitors are more satisfied and can accept any rise in fees. It plans to open two new zones: one related to the movie "Beauty and the Beast" in the spring of 2020, and the other to the movie "Frozen" in fiscal 2022.
