
Production of kumade decorative bamboo rakes -- which are believed to rake in good fortune -- has ramped up at a crafts studio in Adachi Ward, Tokyo, ahead of the beginning of the Tori no Ichi festival on Nov. 1, an occasion for praying for business success. About 6,000 bamboo rakes are set to be handmade by artisans at the studio, along with 300 types of ornaments such as small gold coins and manekineko lucky cats.
