Members of the all-male pop group Tokio apologized on Wednesday to the victim and her family over the alleged indecent assault by group member Tatsuya Yamaguchi.
Police had sent papers pertaining to the case to the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office regarding the allegations. However, public prosecutors decided on Tuesday not to indict Yamaguchi, 46.
Four members of the group, excluding Yamaguchi, gave a press conference at a Tokyo hotel. At the start of the press conference, group leader Shigeru Joshima, 47, said all the Tokio members met on Monday night, at which time Yamaguchi said he would leave the group and gave them a letter of resignation. However, no final decision was reached that night.
"We could not find the answer for what to do, including how to deal with Yamaguchi," Joshima said.
