The medal not only marks a personal triumph for Deepak but also contributes to India's growing success in the sport. As a promising talent, Deepak 's journey signifies the potential and bright future of Indian boxing on the global stage.

Mohammad Hussamuddin

Despite reaching the semi-finals of the World Boxing Championships in the 57kg weight class, Mohammed Hussamuddin had to settle for a bronze medal after being compelled to forfeit his match against Saidel Horta of Cuba. The talented pugilist suffered a knee injury in the quarters, leading to pain and swelling. Following a thorough evaluation by the medical team, the management made the tough decision to withdraw from the semi-final to prevent exacerbating the injury. Due to the injury, Hussamuddin faced a setback as he underwent left knee surgery, which forced him to miss the Hangzhou Asian Games. The 2023 Asian Games was a crucial event for Paris Olympic Games qualification, making his absence a missed opportunity for the talented Indian boxer. But now he is fit and raring to make a comeback to achieve his ultimate mission of qualifying for the Paris Olympics.

Narender Berwal

Indian boxer Narender Berwal concluded his Asian Games campaign with a commendable bronze medal in the +92kg category. In the semi-final clash, Berwal faced a tough opponent in Olympic and world championship medallist Kamshybek Kunkabayev from Kazakhstan, succumbing to a 0-5 defeat. Despite the setback, Berwal's journey showcased his skill and determination in the ring. While missing out on an Olympic quota, his bronze medal adds to India's boxing achievements. Berwal's resilience against top-tier competition exemplifies the high level of competition at the Asian Games, and his performance marks a significant chapter in his boxing career.

Nishant Dev
