'Toilets are not open' - police warning as tourists pack out beauty spot

Day-trippers have packed out a popular beauty spot during the heatwave - leading to police putting out a warning to visitors.

The Derbyshire valley of Dovedale was full of visitors on Wednesday, June 24 as 30 degree heat bathed the UK.

But police have had to take to social media to warn that the car park is full and some drivers are double parking on roads.

This has blocked emergency services from getting to the site if they need to. Drivers are urged not to park on the roads.

There are also no toilets open at the beauty spot and police have advised people to "plan their journeys accordingly".

A tweet from Derbyshire Constabulary said: "Dovedale is extremely busy today. The car park is full and social distancing is increasingly difficult due to the large numbers of people.

"Some are double parking on the roads. If there were to be an emergency, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service would be unable to access the site.

"Toilets are not open and people should plan their journeys accordingly. Local partners are working to find solutions to the issues but for the time being please, if the car park is full, then do not park on the roads. They are unsuitable and put visitors/residents at real risk."

Dovedale is nestled in the Peak District. The land is owned by the National Trust and annually attracts thousands of visitors.

Ashbourne Police Safer Neighbourhood Team also added that no BBQs were allowed at the site and people should take their rubbish home.
