Toilet roll thief banned from town centre

A persistent thief has been banned from entering Warrington town centre.

Kieran Mercer, 25, was handed a criminal behaviour order (CBO) which prevents him from entering Warrington centre for the next three years.

The order allows Mercer, of Wilderspool Causeway, to go into the town only to attend a police station, job centre, court and probation service appointment.

The order was handed down during a hearing at Warrington Magistrates court on January 21.

The order follows a prison sentence handed down to Mercer last July when he was jailed for 38 weeks.

Warrington Magistrates heard that Mercer stole food, perfume, toilet roll and cleaning products from shops in Warrington and Runcorn.

He was convicted of 13 counts of theft and using threatening behaviour.

CBO's are used to tackle serious and persistent offenders who are often involved in anti-social behaviour.
