Toilet roll business owner hits back at online trolls who accused her of capitalising on coronavirus outbreak

A businesswoman who runs a toilet roll business has hit back at online trolls who have accused her of cashing in on coronavirus.

Leah Dale, who has owned On a Roll for three years, says she has received abuse for advertising her budget toilet roll deals amid a stockpiling crisis.

The 38-year-old mum-of-six, from Morecambe, says people have accused her of clearing supermarket shelves to line her own pockets, reports LancsLive.

She said: “I am being accused of cashing in on the coronavirus. People have called us a ‘bunch of f****** idiots'.

“I let it get to me at first, it really upset me when I saw the comments but I decided I’m not going to stop because of what people are saying.”

Leah, who owned a Sunbay Tanning Centre for 15 years, started her side business by selling blue rolls which are often used for cleaning purposes.

She used her trade card to stock up on the blue rolls at a nearby warehouse, which sells items in bulk to registered traders.

She said: “It was when I was picking up the blue rolls for the salon that I saw all the toilet roll. I put a few packs in the shop to sell.

“I started delivering them, I have six kids so I can’t get out all the time. It calmed down for a little bit and it’s just started picking up again because of coronavirus.

“I deliver to older people and those who don’t drive with kids. It works out cheaper for them to get the bigger packs.

“The abuse started a few days ago. People started putting pictures on of the empty shelves in supermarkets then they started on me saying I had taken them all.

“Mine are factory packed, you can’t get them in the supermarkets.

“Some people said I was cashing in on coronavirus. I only made a couple of quid on each big packet, it’s hardly millions.

“They said I’m trying to profit from it and that I’m capitalising on it. Someone put a picture of Scarface but changed the drugs to toilet rolls.

“I’m laughing about it now but I was so upset about it, I was close to giving up. But now I think, why should my kids and family suffer from other people’s ignorance.”
