'Toilet of nonsense' - Philippe Coutinho transfer claim made as Barcelona grow 'desperate'

The Spanish media has once again taken aim at former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho as reports have emerged Barcelona are 'desperately' trying to search for a new club for their record signing.

The Catalan giants made the Brazilian their most expensive ever player when they signed him from Liverpool in January 2018, but it hasn't worked out for him in Spain.

After spending the 2019/20 season loan in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, Coutinho's struggles at Barcelona have continued and now they're reportedly 'desperate' to move him on in order to free up some wages.

Spanish newspaper Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness ) described the situation as 'hopeless' after Barcelona had thrown the money spent on the transfer 'into the toilet of nonsense’.

Coutinho has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks, with Everton, Newcastle United and Arsenal among the Premier League clubs that are rumoured to hold an interest in the player.

The 29-year-old has made just 12 La Liga appearances so far this season and has just two goals in all competitions.

Barcelona's desperate financial situation, despite agreeing a deal to sign Ferran Torres for a reported £55m from Manchester City, has put them in a position where they need to sell players.

Coutinho's current deal at the Camp Nou expires in the summer of 2023, meaning Barcelona should at least recoup some of the £142 million they paid Liverpool almost three years ago.

With the January transfer window quickly approaching, his future could be resolved with plenty of clubs reportedly interested.

He had a successful 2019/20 campaign on loan at Bayern Munich a couple of seasons ago where he won both the Bundesliga and the Champions League/

Coutinho made 38 appearances and scored 11 goals in all competitions that season, therefore a permanent move away from Barcelona should help get his career back on track.
