Tofu Chalupas? Kale Crunchwraps? Taco Bell's reaching out to vegetarians

Perhaps you made a New Year's resolution to eat healthier in 2019.

Taco Bell may be able to help.

The only fast-food chain to have the blessing of the American Vegetarian Association, Taco Bell has issued a set of commitments _ going beyond resolutions, they say _ and will test its "first dedicated vegetarian menu" this year, as well as introduce new vegetarian items.

The meat eaters among you may not realize it, but Taco Bell said in a recent press release that it already offers 8 million vegetarian combinations. (Of course, they say this knowing that we word people have no clue about how to check the math on that. But we're pretty sure it involves things like dissecting that 7-Layer Burrito and feeding customers a tortilla filled with only lettuce and sour cream.)

But when it comes to creative new items, we think the possibilities could be interesting _ and yummy. Tofu Chalupas? Kale Crunchwraps? Seitan Soft Tacos? Impossible Burritos? Ancient Grain and Avocado Bowls?

Until the new menu items are unveiled, Taco Bell is impressing upon customers the fact that the company "has now removed ALL artificial colors and flavors from its core menu, and where possible will continue to remove preservatives and other additives from its food."

Hmmm, "core menu." So not to worry, you fans of Beefy Nacho Cheese Doritos Tacos Locos. You can keep ordering your vivid orange fave!
