Toews returns as Blackhawks edge Rangers, 2-1

NEW YORK _ With Jonathan Toews back in the lineup, the Blackhawks avenged their overtime loss to the Rangers from last week with a 2-1 victory at Madison Square Garden.

Scott Darling was stellar in net for the Hawks with 33 saves and won his second duel with former Hawk Antti Raanta, who had 24 saves.

The Hawks also had Brent Seabrook, who missed the last two games because of an apparent head injury he suffered Tuesday, back in the lineup.

The Hawks struck first when Trevor van Riemsdyk scored his first goal of the season from the slot after he received a pass from Artemi Panarin. Van Riemsdyk got the shot off just before he fell down at 5:18.

The Rangers answered at 8:15 when Jesper Fast swatted a puck into the net in front of Hawks goaltender Scott Darling.

But the Hawks retook the lead later in the period when Brian Campbell set up Artem Anisimov in front of the net for Anisimov's 13th goal of the season.

Toews skated on a line between Ryan Hartman and Marian Hossa.

"I've always believed that if you let up or you let off in any game that's when you give yourself the opportunity to get hurt," Toews said. "You have to be ready for contact, willing to go into the mix, whatever you were dealing with should not even be an afterthought."

Toews said the last three days were important for his progress in returning to the ice.

"I just really feel like gotten over the hump of feeling confident that I can go into contact and go into the game and not have to deal with any pain or anything that might act up or come back again," Toews said.
