Toddler, two, dies in hot car on driveway as 'mum took midday nap inside house'

A two-year-old died in a hot car parked on a driveway as her mum took a midday nap inside the house, according to reports

The mum reportedly said she was napping, and phoned the police at around 12.42pm saying she couldn't find her daughter.

But then she discovered the toddler inside the vehicle in Tierrasanta, San Diego, California.

It is unclear how long the child was in the car, but when police arrived she was sadly pronounced dead at about 1pm, NBC San Diego reports.

The car is now at the centre of an investigation, as footage from the scene shows police swarming the area.

Neighbours have offered their support to the family.

One woman living in the area said: "This is tough.

"It hits home. It could happen to any of us.

"I'm a mother, we go through a lot being military spouses, you know, with our significant others, just in life in general and this is just so unfortunate."

It remains unclear how the child got into the car.
