Toddler starved to death strapped in car seat after his mum overdosed on meth

A toddler starved to death while he was strapped to his car seat after his mum overdosed on meth, an autopsy has confirmed.

It's believed the child's three-year-old sister tried to care for him as discarded morsels of food were found around him.

The results of the autopsies were released on Monday and it was revealed the woman could have been dead for 'several days' before she was found, according to the Mirror.

Tiffany Spears, 32, and her 15-month-old son, Nicholas Crowder, were found dead at their home in Portland, US, in February.

The medical examiner has ruled both deaths as an accident and said Spears had been dead for some time after a drugs overdose, the Tennessean reports.

Davidson County Assistant Medical Examiner Emily Dennison revealed that Spears' cause of death was 'acute combined drug toxicity from methamphetamine and fentanyl.'

Her young son Nicholas was said to have died due to 'starvation and dehydration.'

They were both deaths that were ruled as accidental.

Tim Bailey, from the local Sheriff's Office said Spears' three-year-old daughter survived after being found inside the home and treated at a local hospital.

Food including eggshells and dried eggs where said to have been found scattered around the car seat.

"It appeared the decedent's sister tried to take care of the decedent for several days," according to the autopsy.

A probation officer first visited the home to find the front door was locked.

When she looked inside a window, she saw the 3-year-old child running around with Spears on the ground motionless.

After calling police an arriving deputy found Spears to be lying on the bathroom floor with 'no obvious signs of trauma.'

According to the autopsy author, the woman had been dead for several days and drug paraphernalia was discovered at the home while the boy was strapped in his car seat in the floor of a bedroom in the home.

Police were reported to have said there were no hints to indicate there was any foul play, WSMV reported.
