Toddler savagely mauled by three dogs as child suffers 'significant' injuries

Three dogs have savagely mauled a toddler and left the child with "significant" injuries.

Just after 5pm local time in Yatala on Australia's Gold Coast, emergency services received reports of a dog attack.

The little one, who is said to be just three years old, was rushed to Queensland Children's Hospital.

She is thought to have sustained life-threatening injuries, which paramedics described as "significant".

"Concerningly, another young child has sustained significant injuries from dog bites," Queensland Ambulance Service said.

"Multiple paramedic units were called to a private address in Yatala at 5.20pm and transported a child to Queensland Children's Hospital in a serious condition with head and neck injuries."

Several dogs have been seized and an investigation is underway, according to the Gold Coast City Council.

The tot mauling is the third attack in the South East Queensland area in recent days.

On Monday, a six-year-old girl was savaged by two Bull Arab dogs as she climbed a fence.

The dogs were identified as Bull Arabs - a breed developed in Australia for hunting pigs - which have a calm temperament but also known for their aggressiveness after a number of recorded attacks on humans and other dogs.

It was "humanely euthanised" hours after Laquarna Chapman, six, sustained chest and abdominal injuries, according to Logan City Council.

The council said in a statement: "Following a serious dog attack in Woodridge on Monday afternoon, council acted under its legislative powers to seize two bull Arab-type dogs which were not registered or known to council.

“Today, in the interests of public safety, the two dogs were swiftly and humanely euthanised.”

In an earlier statement, the council said it had "zero-tolerance" for "irresponsible ownership and high-risk animal behaviour".

Speaking with 7News, Laquarna's family said thankfully she's now doing "all right" after being admitted to Queensland Children's Hospital.

After coming to her rescue, her uncle was also mauled on his legs by the dogs, with pictures showing the extensive injuries.

He said that on arrival, he looked at his niece and "thought she was dead".

The uncle - who asked not to be identified - said one of the ferocious mutts dragged the little one while she was on the fence.

“She got pulled off the fence by one of the dogs,” he told 7News.

“I just heard my mother screaming in panic. Just ended up jumping the fence to help her.

“One of the dogs was going to attack her face. I threw a chair at the dog.

“I tried chucking her over the fence, then I ended up getting mauled by the dogs.”

Police are investigating the circumstances around the incident.

It came just days before another horror attack in Melbourne in which an elderly woman's ear was bitten off by a large pit bull.
