Toddler rushed to Irish hospital after contracting Covid-19

A toddler has been hospitalised after contracting Covid-19 in Ireland.

The incident was notified to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre on Tuesday.

The youngster is the 35th child under the age of four to be rushed to hospital with coronavirus.

The exact age, location or condition of the patient has not been released by health officials.

Last month it emerged that another toddler had been admitted to ICU after picking up the killer bug. However thankfully no children under the age of 14 have died from the disease in Ireland.

The latest statistics released by the HPSC also show that three further people between the ages of 15 and 24 have been hospitalised with the disease.

Overall, eight people under the age of 24 have been brought to intensive care after contracting the virus here. Sadly, one person in this age bracket has died.

Meanwhile the pandemic continues to hit the older age groups hardest, with the most deaths in Ireland coming in the over-85 age group.

However the new statistics show that over 100 Irish people between the ages of 45 and 64 have died after contracting Covid-19.
