Toddler rushed to hospital after choking on toy ball

A toddler was rushed to hospital after choking on a "small toy ball."

Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) were called to the scene in Netherley .

The ambulance service were called at 10.49am, while an air ambulance helicopter was dispatched and landed on playing fields near the Royal British Legion on Wood Lane.

Residents from the nearby street where the boy lives described their concern and shock at the incident today.

A local woman told the ECHO the boy started choking on a small toy ball, and had been told by paramedics things looked "touch and go" for a while.

Another resident also described the boy choking on a small ball.

However ambulance crews managed to dislodge the ball and neighbours said the boy had appeared to be "alright in the end."

The ECHO understands the helicopter was not needed and the boy was taken to hospital in a road ambulance to be checked over.
