Police are investigating a possible hit-and-run after a 14-month-old boy was struck by a truck near Ipswich in Queensland's south-east.
Emergency services were called to Fernvale Road at Brassall just before 3:00pm to reports a toddler had been hit by a vehicle.
A Queensland Police spokesperson told the ABC they believe it was a small water tank truck that hit the child, causing non-serious head injuries.
The driver of the truck may not have realised they had injured the child, police said.
"It could be a case of the truck driver may not have known, so we are appealing to drivers in that area to come forward," the spokesperson said.
"We are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage to come forward."
One driver who witnessed the accident told the ABC the truck hit the boy and continued driving without stopping.
"It was horrifying," he said.
"I mean, I've got kids as well."
Several other visibly shaken witnesses from nearby homes said they ran outside and treated the boy by wrapping him in towels until paramedics arrived.
They said there was no one with him at the time.
Police have identified the boy and contacted his family.
The toddler is in Queensland Children's Hospital in a stable condition.
"When we got on the scene, he was crying, alert and interactive," critical care paramedic Daniel Barron said.
"He remained fairly stable throughout transport.
"He was fairly interactive and responded well to pain relief."
Police have cordoned off the road and the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
