A toddler critically injured after being hit by a falling roof tile in a freak hotel accident in Majorca has sadly died in hospital.
Sources at the island’s Son Espases Hospital confirmed the 14-month-old girl had lost her fight for life in the early hours of this morning.
She suffered severe head injuries in the horror accident at midday yesterday and was admitted to a paediatric intensive care unit.
The parents of the little girl are understood to have taken refuge with her under an entrance porch of the hotel during a heavy shower when the heavy tile fell on top of her.
She was stabilised at the scene before being rushed to the island’s Son Espases hospital.
The hotel where the horror accident occurred at around midday yesterday has been identified as the Green Garden Aparthotel in Cala Rajada on Majorca’s east coast.
A source at Son Espases Hospital earlier said “the toddler is very serious" after suffering severe head injuries.
The little girl, who was on holiday with her family, was believed to be Dutch.
Civil Guard officers on the Spanish island are investigating and will present a report to a local judge tasked with coordinating the probe.
Local reports said the tile was thought to have come loose because of the heavy rain.
It remains unclear if the family involved was staying at the hotel or had simply stopped to take shelter from the rain while passing by.
