Toddler hit and killed by 4WD in driveway accident

Police investigators will examine the circumstances of the accident.

A toddler has died after being hit by their family's car in a driveway, in the second such incident in South Australia in a week.

Police said the 18-month-old was run over by a four-wheel-drive at Tailem Bend, about 100 kilometres south-east of Adelaide.

Emergency services were called to the scene just before 12:30pm.

The child was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but has since died.

Police have described the incident as a "tragic accident".

"Despite the desperate efforts of paramedics, sadly the child died at hospital," police said in a statement.

Major Crash investigators will examine the circumstances of the accident, but no other details have been released.

It comes almost exactly a week after a toddler was hit and killed by his family's car at Angle Vale, north of Adelaide.

Last Saturday, police were called to a home on Whitelaws Court after reports a two-year-old boy had been run over in the backyard.

Paramedics desperately tried to resuscitate the boy but he died at the scene, with police saying his family was "inconsolable".
