Toddler found dead in hot car in Victorian town

The child was found on Friday night.

Police are investigating the death of a three-year-old girl whose body was found in a hot car in the Victorian town of Morwell on Friday night.

The girl's body was found in the car at an address on The Boulevard about 8:30pm.

It was 34 degrees Celsius in Morwell at the time.

Neighbours rushed to help while waiting for ambulance officers to arrive but the child died at the scene.

Police are investigating how the child came to be in the car, including whether she had climbed into the car to play hide and seek.

"The circumstances of how the child came to be in the vehicle are yet to be established," Acting Inspector Peter Fusinato told ABC Gippsland.

Counselling is being provided for relatives, police, ambulance officers and neighbours.

"That's all part of the process, to ensure we look after our people and look after the people who assisted on the day," Mr Fusinato said.

Police say some of the girl's relatives are still being notified and would not comment further on the case.

The incident is being investigated by the Homicide Squad.
