Toddler dies after being hit by tractor on farm

A child has died after being hit by a tractor on a farm, according to the Health and Safety Executive. The authorities were alerted to the incident near Buckland Brewer, Devon, shortly before 8am on Saturday, reports DevonLive.

The toddler, believed to be under two years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious. The HSE said they are supporting Devon and Cornwall Police in the investigation.

A police spokesperson said they received a report of an accident involving a tractor and a young child on a farm. Emergency services promptly responded, but the child could not be saved. A file will be prepared for the coroner.

A local farmer, who did not wish to be named, told The Metro this was a 'dreadful tragedy in the farmyard'. They added: "Please everyone be aware and careful on your individual farms at this time of trying to get maize and silage done and farming being under extreme pressure."
