Toddler dies after being found 'unresponsive' in paddling pool in Derbyshire

A toddler has died after he was found 'unresponsive' in a paddling pool.

Derbyshire Police say they were called to reports that the 23-month-old was found unresponsive in a pool in Nottingham Road, Somercotes.

The incident happened at around 1.30pm on Wednesday, June 2.

Detectives say they are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the youngsters death, but have sent their sympathies to his family.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: “Officers were called to reports that a 23-month-old boy had been found unresponsive in a paddling pool in Nottingham Road, Somercotes, at around 1.30pm on June 2.

"The boy was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital, however, despite the best efforts of staff, he sadly passed away.

“Our thoughts are with his family at this most difficult of times.

“Officers are continuing their enquiries into the circumstances around the incident on behalf of the coroner.”

The identity of the boy has not been revealed by the police.

A coronial investigation into the incident is currently underway.
