Toddler claims 'spooky' lady visits him in bed every night and makes specific request

No matter how old you get, nightmares are never pleasant.

But one family can't work out if their toddler's creepy night time fears are based on bad dreams or if there's more to them.

The young boy claims he's been seeing a strange lady in his room each night - and she makes a rather bizarre request.

The child's grandma is so concerned about the tales of the ghostly figure that she's even written into an advice column for some help on what to do next.

In a letter to slate.com's Dear Care and Feeding, titled My Grandson Is Visited by a Spooky Lady Every Night, the unnamed woman explained all and we have to admit, the whole thing does sound like something from a scary movie.

She wrote: "My 2.5-year-old grandson has been having a recurring nightmare for the past week and a half. He wakes up very upset saying there is a lady in his room.

"When asked if she talks to him and why he thinks she is there, he says that she has to get something from his room, and she wants to put something on his foot.

"He is afraid to go to bed. My daughter is in the process of potty training him, and he also has a new sister (4 weeks old). I know that these life changes can cause children to have nightmares, and I understand that imagination is vivid at this age. However, this just seems so specific and kind of creepy."

She adds that the family are "at a loss" over how to handle the situation.

The agony aunt replies, stating that a week and a half isn't a "tremendously" long period of time for a recurring nightmare, so the family should see how it goes for a while and possibly put the breaks on potty training for now.

Additionally, the writer suggests trying all the common nightmare remedies - such as sleeping with a night light and using a "weird lady spray that renders any weird ladies harmless".

If all else fails, they recommend buying a nanny cam "so we can all see the ghost".

They jokingly add: "It’s not a ghost. More likely to be a demon taking the shape of an old lady."
