Toddler, 2, rushed to hospital with head injury after 'fall' outside high-rise flat

A two-year-old child was left with a shocking head injury and had to be rushed to hospital after they were discovered following a reported fall outside a block of high-rise flats.

Cops swooped on the scene and set up a cordon around Whimbrel House, in the Bootle area of Liverpool, Merseyside just after 11.30am.

A man who found the child 'after falling' on the floor, put them in the recovery position and stayed by their side until paramedics arrived, the Liverpool Echo reports.

In the awful incident medics confirmed the child sustained a head injury that led to them being raced to hospital.

Full details surrounding the incident are not yet known but it was confirmed the toddler's injuries aren't thought to be life threatening.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 11:38 to an incident involving a young child aged two. Two resources were sent, including an emergency ambulance. We took the child to hospital with a head injury.

Merseyside Police confirmed officers launched an investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We can confirm emergency services were called to an address on St James Drive in Bootle today, Wednesday 5 October.

"At around 12.40pm officers were called to a report that a two-year-old child was found injured outside a block of flats.

"The child has been taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

"An investigation to establish the circumstances is now underway.

"Anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to DM @MerPolCC quoting reference number 372 of 5 October."

A number of police cars have left the scene but the cordon and mobile police station remain in place.
