The tot's parents lost track of him when they were got outside their Arkansas home - and he ended up running back into the property on Saturday.
The couple were focused on dousing the flames and sounding the alarm when Loki Nicholi Mason Sharp made his way back into the inferno.
The 18-month-old boy was later found dead in the home in Gentry, Arkansas, US.
According to Metro , his dad Kurtis Sharp wrote on Facebook : "I just wanna stop here and say never take your children for granted (sic).
"Cherish every waking moment with them!!!! ‘We love u bubba and we know your in a better place (sic) !!!!"
He reportedly added that Loki was unable to save the puppy, who also passed away trying to protect the youngster from the flames.
In another post the heartbroken father asked friends to keep him and his wife Caitlin in their prayers.
The blaze is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.
An online fundraiser for the boy's funeral states: "On November 30th 2019 the Sharp family’s home caught fire and took the life of their 1 year old son, Loki Nicholi Mason Sharp.
"After talking with the family and asking them what they needed, their main concern was how they were going to pay for the funeral.
"If you could find it in your heart to donate it would be greatly appreciated. Any amount would help!"
The tot's grandparents also shared their heartbreak on Facebook and said their son and his wife had lost everything in the fire.
