Todd McShay’s final NFL mock draft has a surprise destination for Justin Fields

It’s finally draft day!

So of course there are some final mock drafts to pore over before Thursday night’s festivities begin, and that includes one from ESPN draft guru Todd McShay.

This time around, he doesn’t include a ton of trades, but there’s — to me — a surprise as to where Ohio State QB Justin Fields will land.

In Thursday’s mock, he has the San Francisco 49ers taking QB Trey Lance from North Dakota State. The Carolina Panthers — who just traded Teddy Bridgewater on Wednesday — end up with tackle Rashawn Slater.

And it’s the Denver Broncos (who have Bridgewater on the roster now) who take Fields at No. 9:

Make no mistake, trading for Teddy Bridgewater doesn’t take Denver out of the QB running. Making such a move further calls into question whether the Broncos believe Drew Lock can be their guy, and if they don’t, then Bridgewater shouldn’t be the final answer, either. Fields is extremely accurate with a big arm, and he could be the franchise starter the Broncos are looking for.

Where does Alabama’s Mac Jones end up? McShay has him falling into Bill Belichick’s lap at No. 15, just like the New England Patriots legend drew it up.
