Todd McShay predicts Seahawks select defensive end in 2020 draft

The 2019 NFL draft is barely in the books and ESPN’s Todd McShay has already released his first way-too-early mock draft for 2020.

McShay did not determine the draft order for his mock, but relied on Football Outsiders’ projected records for the 2019 season. In fact, McShay admitted he hasn’t actually studied tape on any of these players yet, a process he’ll begin next week.

He clearly refers to the mock as “premature look at the 2020 NFL draft.”

With that being said, despite Seattle selecting L.J. Collier in the first round this year, McShay is predicting the Seahawks pick up another defensive end next April – A.J. Epenesa out of Iowa at No. 20 overall.

“Put up 10.5 sacks, 16.5 TFLs and four forced fumbles and you’re going to get the draft buzz started early,” McShay writes. “I think new Seahawk L.J. Collier is going to be effective in the pros, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for this 6-6, 277-pounder flying off the edge in Seattle.”

Collier has yet to even step onto the Seahawks practice field, a chance he’ll get this weekend when he and the rest of the draft class report to the VMAC for the team’s rookie minicamp.
