Todd McShay is going to be on your television for the foreseeable future

Don’t worry draft-obsessed fans. Todd McShay isn’t going anywhere — at least according to Chris Mortensen. McShay has apparently pulled his name out of consideration when it comes to helping out his old friend Joe Douglas with the New York Jets.

It makes sense. There’s no reason for McShay to take the job with a team in the NFL. Look at how long Mel Kiper has made a career of being a draft guru. It’s a lot less stressful to work for ESPN and a television job comes with a lot more security than anything in the NFL — especially when compared to a job with the Jets.

Besides, if being a general manager is McShay’s end-game he can do so without going through the grind of working under Joe Douglas. Yes, guys like Daniel Jeremiah — who was also rumored for a job with the Jets — have previous NFL experience, but being a television scout comes with a lot more exposure. Owners fall in love with television guys. It happens in the NBA with coaches. It happens in the NFL with coaches. Now it’s happening with front offices. Mike Mayock transitioned from NFL Network to the front office of the Oakland Raiders.

For now, McShay isn’t going anywhere. He’s staying with ESPN. It’s probably a good career move.
