The level of buzz around the Washington Redskins possible moves with the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft has mounted to an all-time high over the past few days, but it’s tough to say how likely it is that they pick anyone other than Ohio State’s Chase Young.
Should they pass on Young, there are two ways they would likely go; trading down in the draft, or selecting Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa. Both paths are technically possible, but that doesn’t mean that you should feel either are likely to happen, as Ron Rivera and the team have been extremely high on Young so far throughout this draft process.
So if you had to put a number on it, how much of a chance do you give the Redskins to take someone other than the perennial pass-rusher?
About 10-15%, according to ESPN’s Todd McShay, and even that seems high. In order for the Redskins to trade the pick away, it would take a king’s ransom in return. The Miami Dolphins are the obvious trade partner, as they have three first-round picks in this year’s draft (No. 5, 18, 26). For the Redskins to even consider an offer to trade down, the deal would have to include the No. 5 pick, plus the No. 18 pick, and quite possibly a second- and third-rounder sprinkled in as well.
Do the Dolphins want Tagovailoa this badly? It’s a steep price, but you can’t put a price on a franchise QB.
