Todd Gurley responds to stat comparing him and Elliott to McCaffrey

We’re only five weeks into the 2019 season, but there’s already an early favorite to win NFL MVP this season. Christian McCaffrey has been nearly unstoppable for the Carolina Panthers thus far, racking up big yardage numbers and seven total touchdowns already.

Through five games, McCaffrey leads the league in rushing with 587 yards and has added 279 yards receiving. That gives him 866 yards from scrimmage, which is tops in the NFL by 124 over Dalvin Cook.

SportsCenter pointed out that McCaffrey has more total yards than Todd Gurley and Ezekiel Elliott this season combined. Gurley responded on Twitter and kindly asked to be left out of the comparison to the red-hot McCaffrey.

McCaffrey is on a torrid pace right now, one that will be difficult to keep up. But considering he’s already gotten 136 touches in five games, his volume of work will be high.

The Panthers need to ride McCaffrey as much as possible with Cam Newton injured, and that’s exactly what they’re doing right now – with success, too. The Panthers have won three in a row without Newton, largely thanks to McCaffrey’s dominance.
