Todd Grantham becomes latest to shun Bengals’ defensive coordinator position

Todd Grantham, defensive coordinator of the Florida Gators, turned down the Cincinnati Bengals late Wednesday night to stay in Gainesville.

Grantham, a longtime assistant, has been in the coaching game for 29 years. The former Virginia Tech tackle made a number of college stops as well as NFL, before going back to the college game again.

Newly hired head coach Zac Taylor tried to convince Grantham to become the Bengals’ defensive coordinator but to no avail. The longtime assistant will remain with the Gators, at least for now.

Grantham had emerged as the top candidate after Taylor decided the fit with Jack Del Rio wasn’t right and Dom Capers turned down a chance at the job.
