Todd Davis among Broncos’ inactives for Week 1

Denver Broncos starting inside linebacker Todd Davis (calf) is among the team’s seven inactive players for Monday’s game against the Oakland Raiders. Davis suffered a calf injury on the first day of training camp last month and has not practiced since then.

With Davis not playing in Oakland, Alexander Johnson is expected to start next to Josey Jewell at linebacker. Corey Nelson will likely receive reps as well.

In addition to Davis, fullback Andy Janovich (pectoral), inside linebacker Joe Jones (triceps), cornerback Bryce Callahan (foot), defensive lineman DreMont Jones, wide receiver Juwann Winfree and offensive lineman Corey Levin are also inactive this week.

With Callahan sidelined, the team’s top cornerbacks will be Chris Harris, Isaac Yiadom and De’Vante Bausby.

Nelson will likely be asked to step up on special teams in the place of Jones and tight end/fullback Andrew Beck will get reps in the place of Janovich.

Denver was initially considered an underdog in Week 1 before Oakland cut star wide receiver Antonio Brown. The Broncos are now considered 2.5-point favorites, according to BetMGM.

The Raiders’ seven inactive players are guard Jonathan Cooper, wide receiver Keelan Doss, guard Gabe Jackson, quarterback DeShone Kizer, safety Dallin Leavitt, defensive tackle Corey Liuget and offensive tackle David Sharpe.

Monday’s game (8:20 p.m. MT) will be nationally televised on ESPN.
