Todd Cantwell turns up Rangers excitement over Kieran Dowell as he bigs up Norwich pal and predicts fan joy

Todd Cantwell reckons Rangers fans have a reason to be cheerful if they sign his former Norwich teammate Kieran Dowell this summer.

The Ibrox side are set to land the former Everton playmaker on a three-year deal in the summer as he will leave Carrow Road when his contract expires. The two linked up for two-and-a-half years in the Canaries' engine room and will rekindle that relationship under Michael Beale next season with Rangers looking to bounce back from a poor season.

Cantwell has impressed since joining Ibrox in January and fans will be hoping for a similar impact from Dowell, who is in Cantwell's year group and played alongside him for England U21s. And while Cantwell was giving nothing away over the deal, he did admit he would relish the chance to play alongside him again. He said: "Yeah, he’s a good player. He’s someone I enjoyed playing with, we had success at Norwich and he’s a top lad.

"None of that is really to do with me. It’s the manager's choice, the club's choice and his choice. If that is something that happens then I’m sure the Rangers fans will be happy."

Beale also looks set to add keeper Jack Butland to his squad and Cantwell was then asked if it's "exciting" to see the club looking at those types of player this summer. He went on: "In terms of recruitment, it’s kind of irrelevant because you’ve a group of players in pre-season fighting to be in the starting XI.

"We’ve got everything to play for next season and the hunger in the dressing room will be real. Whoever is there playing for Rangers, it’s important to know you’ll be fighting for your spot and to win every game."
