Todd Cantwell is poised to become Michael Beale’s first Rangers signing as the Norwich City man prepares to travel to Scotland to complete his medical and pen his contract at Ibrox over the weekend.
Beale is a huge admirer of the playmaker and promised the Light Blue legions exciting transfer news – now Cantwell is set to be confirmed in the next 72 hours. The 24-year-old started his career at Carrow Road and came through the youth ranks to make his first team debut.
Cantwell had loan spells at Fortuna Sittard and Bournemouth and was a key player for the Canaries in the English Premier League under Daniel Farke. However, he has fallen out of favour and new boss David Wagner admitted he was free to leave the Norfolk outfit. And Rangers have won the race for the former England Under-21 international and his arrival will boost Beale’s squad with a Viaplay Cup final against Celtic next month and they are hoping to progress in the Scottish Cup with a fourth round trip to St Johnstone.
With only formalities to complete, Cantwell could even be a Rangers player by the time of the teatime clash at McDiarmid Park. Beale said previously of the player: "Todd was an excellent player when he was young and playing against my Liverpool Under-23s. I thought he would go on and have a fantastic career. He had that at the start and he is maybe just looking for a move to re-ignite it, but I think he is a fantastic player at a good age.”
