Confident Tam McManus has shut down any talk that Todd Cantwell could struggle at Rangers like high profile flop Aaron Ramsey if a deal is rubber stamped.
Michael Beale has spoken openly about his admiration for Cantwell, who is out of contract with Norwich City in the summer, and the 24-year-old appears to be on his way out of Carrow Road this month with new boss David Wagner dropping him from the squad for his first game in charge against Blackburn in the FA Cup. The England U21 international has attracted interest from the English Championship but could look north of the border to kickstart his career in the Scottish Premiership.
However, some fans have expressed concerns over a move for Cantwell after he has struggled for form and game time with Norwich and on loan at Bournemouth over the last 12 months. It could be a risky bit of business just 12 months on from the addition of Welshman Ramsey, who failed to make his mark on loan from Juventus capping off his Ibrox spell by missing the crucial penalty in the Europa League final shoot-out.
Everton star Tom Davies has also been linked with a temporary move to Ibrox, having fallen out of favour at Goodison Park under Frank Lampard. McManus reckons a deal for both players could add "more legs" to an experienced Ibrox midfield.
When asked about a comparison between the potential addition of Cantwell and Davies with last year's move for Ramsey, McManus told The PLZ Football Show: 'It was towards the end of his career and he never had the legs for it anymore. I think Rangers have got to look younger.
"In the middle of the pitch they have Lundstram, Arfield, Jack, Davis and they are all experienced players. I think they need a bit of energy and a bit of legs.
"I think both of them would bring that. Listen, I think both have been linked for about a week and Michael Beale has not dismissed it, so I think there is definitely something in it."
