Todd Cantwell Rangers transfer complete as Michael Beale secures first signing as Ibrox boss

Todd Cantwell has become Michael Beale's first signing as Rangers manager.

The Norwich City midfielder - who was heading out of contract in the summer - has penned a long-term deal with the Light Blues as the new boss begins putting his own stamp on things at Ibrox following his arrival as Giovanni van Bronckhorst's successor. The deal is likely to be the first of activity in and out of the club as the transfer window enters its business end.

Former Canaries star Cantwell has featured 19 times this season with 18 of those appearances coming in the English Championship. However, he has yet to register a goal or an assist this campaign and will be looking to put that right straight away and make a quick impression on the Rangers faithful. The 24-year-old is a former England Under-21 international and he admits he can't to get started after joining a 'massive' club as he opened up on what he hopes to bring to the table.

Speaking to the Rangers official website, Beale said: “I am extremely happy to welcome Todd to Rangers. He is a player that is fully aligned to our playing style and we believe he will be a key player for the club in the coming seasons.

“I am looking forward to working with him on the pitch this week and integrating him into our fantastic football club.”

Cantwell added: "I am delighted and I feel very proud. This is obviously a massive football club and I am delighted to get going and to get started.

This is a massive club and there is a massive responsibility when you sign for Rangers to be the player that the fans want to see.

"They want to see a player that works hard and a player that can win them games which is very important and that is something I am hoping I can bring."

Sporting director Ross Wilson continued: “We are delighted to welcome Todd to Rangers. Michael and I have spent a lot of time talking with Todd, and indeed with others about his quality and what he can bring to our squad.

“We are excited to have him start with the group this week"
