Todd Boehly showing transfer move for $138m Man Utd target was greedy as $42.5m link emerges

Chelsea are once again set to be one of the teams to watch in the summer transfer window despite a poor season. If anything, it makes them even more enthralling and unpredictable. Todd Boehly splashed £250m ($312.8m) on a team that had won the Club World Cup in 2021/22 as well as reaching both domestic cup finals.

What the American owner has planned for a team that have languished in mid-table for most of the campaign and need to sell off half their underperforming and overpaid players is quite the spectacle for rumours. It appears that there will be practically no limit for the Blues.

Here, football.london takes you through the latest stories dong the transfer rumour mill and puts them into context as to how likely, even in the universe of Chelsea and Boehly, they are to actually happen. With Joao Felix and Tammy Abraham moves being covered.

Joao Felix walk out

Chelsea already have enough attacking talent on the books to fill an entire XI, who goes in goal out of their speedy wingers and not-so-tricky number tens is perhaps a better debate than which ones will actually be at Stamford Bridge next year.

With Christopher Nkunku on his way in over the summer there is another unknown to add to the equation facing Mauricio Pochettino, should he be appointed. One player they might not have to deal with is Joao Felix. According to Spanish outlet Cope, the 23-year-old is planning for another year in England but wants it to be at a club that has Champions League football.

That rules Chelsea out, naturally, but Arsenal and Manchester United were both in the mix and offered his services in January and it is said they, alongside Newcastle, would be in the mix once more to sign him.

Football.london says: Felix has hardly set the world alight in England but he has shown flashes of being the player Benfica sold for £111m ($138m). Ultimately Boehly splashed out on an expensive six-month loan to push Chelsea onto Champions League glory but he hit the woodwork more times (three) than he scored goals in the competition.

Chelsea don't need another mysterious, half-striker-half-number ten and even with three goals in the league since January, Felix doesn't answer too many questions left to be answered. It was slightly greedy of Boehly to think that Felix could polish the mess that Chelsea were in.

Tammy Abraham return

Now we're talking. In the words of Chandler Bing, could this be anymore modern day Chelsea? According to transfer expert Simon Phillips, the Blues have had the name of their former academy starlet floated by 'one or two' in a bid to re-sign their third top scorer since 2019.

Despite leaving in the summer of 2021, only Mason Mount and Kai Havertz - who have both played consistently over that period and also contributed heavily in 2020/21 while Abraham was often sidelined - have scored more than 30 goals in that time. The Englishman has 36 in 100 matches at Roma having bagged 17 league goals last term as well.

Football.london says: It's hard not to laugh, really. Abraham was sold for £34m ($42.5m) but has a buy-back clause active this summer for £67.3m ($80m). It would be extremely Chelsea to do something like this, especially after Abraham's second season drop-off in Italy.

They do need a striker and Abraham knows the club, fits the age and footballing profile for Boehly and Pochettino and has experience in the league. However, Chelsea already have the daunting Romelu Lukaku problem to deal with already. Abraham is immensely popular at Chelsea and Cobham, given the disaster that has come before and after Abraham with attacking wastefulness, it's not surprising if he's being mentioned.

Is he an elite option worth the big-bucks, though? We're not so sure.
