Todd Boehly receives clear Chelsea transfer instruction amid Kai Havertz goal concern

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has been told why a new striker must be next on his transfer shopping list following Kai Havertz's uninspiring performance against Leeds.

Graham Potter eased part of the pressure that laid rest on his shoulders after a run of two wins in 12 games. Wesley Fofana's first Premier League goal since his summer move from Leicester City was the difference against Leeds in a much-needed victory.

Despite the victory, the performance wasn't the most convincing and Chelsea, yet again, squandered a number of big chances. Joao Felix was unfortunate not to grab his first goal at Stamford Bridge when his effort struck the crossbar whilst Havertz failed to beat Illan Meslier.

Havertz has scored only five league goals all season, with his last coming in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace back in January. The German has played in all but one league outing this season but has faced criticism for his contribution in recent weeks.

The forward’s low goal contribution has resulted in reports suggesting a new striker is one of Boehly's priorities ahead of the summer transfer window, as well as a new goalkeeper. football.london understands that RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku has signed a pre-contract agreement with the club whilst Romelu Lukaku will return to the club from his loan at Inter.

Bohely was in attendance at Stamford Bridge to witness his superstars in action. After spending over £600m in the two previous transfer windows, any underperformers aren't expected to be kept round for much longer.

After another uninspiring performance as Chelsea's central striker, Havertz has been slammed for his performance. Former Tottenham defender Matt Dawson said on Sky Sports: "Kai Havertz, he's just not a number nine.

"He doesn't want to stay between the sticks. He just roams about and he didn't cause them any problems today."

Dawson's comments were seconded by Gabby Agbonlahor. "Chelsea were there for the taking really," he told talkSPORT. "They weren't great. They were better than they have been recently but still...

"I think Havertz, that one-on-one he had in the first half... it was like watching me out there!

"It wasn't convincing but I guess Chelsea will have to take that and at least it takes the pressure off Graham Potter a little bit."
