Todd Boehly can continue Brighton trend with World Cup gem as £30m star awaits Chelsea audition

We have completed the first round of fixtures in Qatar across the eight groups, featuring some shocks, twists and a freakish number of 0-0's.

Some gems have already emerged whilst known quantities have also shined. Chelsea have naturally been linked with a lot of players across the tournament already, but there have been some who may have gone under the radar or the Blues might do well to take a closer look at in the second round of games.

We start off with Group A featuring hosts Qatar, Netherlands, Senegal and Ecuador. It was Netherlands and Ecuador who won the first round of games with Edouard Mendy facing criticism for errors in both Dutch goals.

Attention from Ecuador was on midfielder Moises Caicedo who shined against Chelsea in Brighton's 4-1 win last month. There have already been links to the 21-year-old who Graham Potter signed for the Seagulls in August 2021.

His impressive displays have reportedly gained the attention of several top Premier League clubs, most notably Chelsea who are likely to invest in a new midfielder soon.

Another player to pay attention to in this group is Netherlands defender Jeremie Frimpong. The young right-back did not get off the bench in the opener but will hope for some minutes against Ecuador on Friday afternoon in their second group game. Louis Van Gaal's first-choice Denzel Dumfries, who is ahead of Frimpong, has also been linked to Chelsea in recent transfer windows.
