Todd Boehly briefly talks $900m investment with PIF that strengthens Newcastle and Chelsea link

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has revealed that Cain International have teamed up with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment (PIF) to 'offer something that is rare' following a $900m investment in a luxury hotel group.

Cain have collaborated with the PIF, who, of course, own an 80% stake in Newcastle United, in supporting the Aman Group's global expansion of hotels and residences. Boehly sits on the board of Cain while another of Chelsea's part-owners, Jonathan Goldstein, is the company's CEO.

Although this deal, obviously, has nothing to do with football, it is another example of the growing relationship between Newcastle and Chelsea's owners. Boehly, for one, already knows Amanda Staveley well and the American has predicted the top six will become 'the big seven' with Newcastle.

Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi were even guests in the directors' box at Stamford Bridge last month, where they were spotted speaking to Behdad Eghbali, the co-controlling owner of Chelsea. Some executives have not been quite so welcoming, given Newcastle's plans to one day upset the established order, but there is already a strong relationship between the consortia outside of the game. The investment in the Aman group is a reminder of that.

"It opened up now in New York," Boehly said at the SALT conference this week. "It's in the Crown building. The reviews have been just fantastic.

"We think it's the highest luxury brand out there. The level of quality, the level of service, is unique. It absolutely is about offering something that is rare."
