Kyle Chrisley, son of Chrisley Knows Best stars Todd and Julie Chrisley, is suing Rutherford County, Tennessee, and two sheriff deputies for $1.7 million. The lawsuit claims false arrest and excessive force during a September 2024 incident at his home. According to court documents, Chrisley was arrested on aggravated assault charges after a confrontation with a mechanic over a payment dispute.
The lawsuit states that Kyle and his wife Ashleigh were “terrorized in their own home” on September 9, 2024. The couple claims they called police for help but were instead “punished for calling for help.” The incident began when a mechanic came to their Tennessee home demanding additional payment for work that had allegedly already been paid in full. Kyle is the son of reality TV stars who were convicted of fraud before their recent legal troubles.
According to Fox News, as per a neighbor’s security camera footage cited in the lawsuit, the mechanic made threatening statements to Kyle. The mechanic allegedly yelled, “Kyle, come get in front of my car so I can run your b—- a– over” before ramming into the family’s SUV and performing dangerous driving maneuvers in their yard. Multiple neighbors witnessed the incident, which escalated when the mechanic returned to continue threatening the family.
Kyle claims deputies ignored evidence and targeted him due to family name
The lawsuit alleges that when Rutherford County deputies arrived, they arrested Kyle instead of the mechanic despite clear evidence pointing to the mechanic as the aggressor. Kyle’s attorney Wesley Clark claims deputies “disregarded eyewitnesses, overlooked available video footage, and ignored Tennessee’s self-defense law.” The mechanic had accused Kyle of stabbing him with a knife, but neighbors reportedly told police they saw no weapon.

Kyle’s legal team argues the arrest was motivated by his celebrity status rather than the facts of the case. The lawsuit states that deputies “appeared eager to arrest Chrisley, treating the encounter as an opportunity to make headlines by arresting a well-known figure.” This targeting allegedly stemmed from “animus toward Kyle based on his notoriety, past public controversies, or perceived privilege.”
The filing describes how officers allegedly used excessive force during the arrest. Deputies reportedly “threw Chrisley to the ground, placed knees on his back, and handcuffed him despite the fact that Chrisley used no force against the officers and did not otherwise resist.” When Ashleigh attempted to record the arrest on her phone, she was allegedly threatened with arrest and ordered to stop filming. The criminal case against Kyle is still pending, while his parents were recently pardoned by President Trump after serving prison sentences.
