First signs spotted for £10 a day charge to drive anywhere in Greater Manchester
The first signs for Greater Manchester's Clean Air Zone (CAZ) have been spotted amid a warning that thousands of drivers 'don't have the foggiest' what it means.
The CAZ will come into effect on 30 May, 2022, with the aim of reduing the number of polluting vehicles on the region's roads.

It means drivers of vans, buses, coaches, taxis and lorries that fail to meet emissions standards must pay a daily charge to drive anywhere in Greater Manchester.
Private vehicles are not included in the plan.
The charge is £60 a day for HGVs, buses and coaches, with vans paying £10 and taxi and private hire vehicles paying £7.50.
Failure to pay the charge will also result in a £120 fine plus the daily charge.
The zone is being enforced by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and now the first signs have been spotted on some of the region's roads.

The Salford Uni graduate trapped in Kabul terrified the Taliban will find him
A dad who lived and studied in Salford has been trapped in Afghanistan for three months as he and his family fear for their lives.
Azfaar, whose name has been changed to protect his identity, went into hiding with his wife and two young sons after the militant group took control of the country in August.

He is terrified of what could happen if the Taliban find him and his family, due to Azfaar's British education and the nature of his previous work in Kabul.
The dad-of-two fears he could be mistaken for a British spy if he is caught.
He hasn't left their place of hiding since August 15, with food shopping having to be done by female members of the family who can wear a veil to hide their faces.
