A new record high of 2,999 daily new coronavirus cases has been recorded in Scotland – just 24 hours after the previous one had been set.
The latest data has been published this afternoon by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland as part of the national COVID-19 daily briefing.
Nationally, 177 people are in hospital which is up seven from yesterday. There are currently 17 people with the disease being treated in ICU.
The number of newly-reported positive coronavirus cases recorded by NHS Ayrshire & Arran has risen by 155 to 19,898.
Of the new cases, 78 were from East Ayrshire and 41 were attributed to North Ayrshire. There were 35 new cases in South Ayrshire.
A total of 263,710 positive tests have now been recorded from 2.193 million tests carried out since the start of the pandemic. Yesterday, 2,969 new cases had been reported.
According to Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, East Lothian now has the highest infection rate in the country – at 391.3 as of Wednesday, June 23.
The second-highest is Dundee City which has a rate of 381.1 while City of Edinburgh (336.4) has the third-highest rate.
Locally, East Ayrshire's infection rate stands at 277.8 with North Ayrshire's at 213.7. South Ayrshire's is 168.7.
Currently, 18 of Scotland's 32 council regions have an infection rate below the national average of 192.8.

Five further deaths have been announced in the last 24 hours which means 7,706 people have passed away since March 2020.
However, data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows 10,150 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, June 20 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate.
Across the UK, the figure is 128,027 as of last night.
Zero new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours in Na h-Eileanan Siar.
There are 22 patients being treated for the disease in Ayrshire hospitals, which is up one from yesterday, and fewer than five in ICUs.
Nationally, a total of 3,695,303 people have received the first dose of a Covid vaccination and 2,631,533 have received their second dose.
