Today's Public Health Scotland Covid infection rate latest as Moray remains worst affected

There have been another 224 Covid cases confirmed in Scotland within the last 24 hours.

The latest figures have been published this afternoon by the Scottish Government as part of its national COVID-19 daily briefing.

According to Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, Moray has the highest infection rate in the country – at 96.0 as of Friday, May 7.

The second-highest is East Ayrshire which has a rate of 36.9 while Glasgow City (34.7) has the third-highest rate. The rate for Scotland is 21.4 and the full list of all councils is just below...

Elsewhere locally, South Ayrshire has a rate of 10.7. North Ayrshire's rate is 17.1.

No further deaths have been announced in the last 24 hours which means 7,661 people have passed away since March 2020.

However, data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows 10,097 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, May 2 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate.

Across the UK, the figure is 127,598 as of last night.

The number of newly-reported positive coronavirus cases recorded by NHS Ayrshire & Arran has risen by 15.

Of the new cases, eight were from North Ayrshire and six were attributed to East Ayrshire. There was one new case in South Ayrshire.

Zero new cases were recorded in Argyll & Bute, Clackmannanshire, East Lothian, Inverclyde, Na h-Eileanan Siar, Orkney and Shetland Islands.

Across Scotland, as of 8.30am this morning, a total of 2,883,384 people had received the first dose of their Covid vaccine with 1,450,798 having received their second dose.
