Today's Public Health Scotland Covid infection rate latest as 695 new cases confirmed

There have been another 695 Covid cases diagnosed in Scotland within the last 24 hours.

Data has been published this afternoon by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland as part of the national COVID-19 daily briefing.

Nationally, 121 people are in hospital which is down one from yesterday. There are currently 12 people with the illness being treated in ICU.

A total of 241,864 positive tests have now been recorded from 2.086 million tests carried out since the start of the pandemic.

According to Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, Clackmannanshire has the highest infection rate in the country – at 203.7 as of Monday, June 7.

The second-highest is Dundee City which has a rate of 200.2 while South Ayrshire (179.4) has the third-highest rate.

Elsewhere locally, East Ayrshire's infection rate stands at 130.3 with North Ayrshire's at 77.2.

Currently, 21 of Scotland's 32 council regions have an infection rate below the national average of 96.0.

No further deaths have been announced in the last 24 hours which means 7,677 people have passed away since March 2020.

However, data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows 10,130 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, June 6 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate.

Across the UK, the figure is 127,841 as of last night.

The number of newly-reported positive coronavirus cases recorded by NHS Ayrshire & Arran has increased by 47 to 18,116.

Of the new cases, 26 were from South Ayrshire and 14 were attributed to North Ayrshire. There were seven new cases in East Ayrshire.

Zero new cases were recorded in Moray, Na h-Eileanan Siar, Shetland Islands and Orkney Islands.

There are 14 patients being treated for the disease in Ayrshire hospitals, which is up four from yesterday, and fewer than five in ICUs.

A total of 3,403,866 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 2,282,203 have received their second dose.
