Today's Public Health Scotland Covid infection rate data for every council area

A further 641 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Scotland — including 49 in Ayrshire.

Figures have been published this afternoon by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland as part of the national COVID-19 daily briefing.

Nationally, 90 people are in hospital which is up seven from yesterday. There are currently six people with the illness being treated in ICU.

According to Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, Glasgow City has the highest infection rate in the country – at 135.5 as of Wednesday, May 26. However, that is a reduction from 145.9 yesterday.

The second-highest is Clackmannanshire which has a rate of 126.1 while Renfrewshire (115.6) has the third-highest rate.

Locally, South Ayrshire's infection rate stands at 34.6 with East Ayrshire's at 36.1 and North Ayrshire's at 60.1.

Currently, 23 of Scotland's 32 council regions have an infection rate below the national average of 50.6.

Two further deaths have been announced in the last 24 hours which means 7,668 people have passed away since March 2020.

However, data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows 10,114 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, May 23 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate.

Of the new cases in Ayrshire , 17 were from East Ayrshire and 16 were attributed to both North Ayrshire and East Ayrshire.

There are 11 patients being treated for the disease in Ayrshire hospitals and fewer than five in ICUs.

A total of 3,196,051 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 1,971,006 have received their second dose
